Chromated or anodized—which is better?
As is often the case, there is no clear-cut answer to this question.
Most of our devices come standard with color-anodized housings. The surface is extremely hard, is ideal for labeling, and also looks great. This design is suitable for most applications.
However, if high conductivity across the entire surface is required, we use chromium III-passivated surfaces (which do not contain toxic chromium VI). The surface is passivated, remains permanently conductive, and is protected against oxidation. However, the surface is softer and cannot be laser-engraved, as is possible with anodized surfaces. Marking is then performed using a suitable printing process, also carried out in-house.
